“With the release of the third Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay, Panem is at a pivotal moment; cracks are beginning to show in the decadent facade of the Capitol and the spark of revolution has caught. The world as they know it is crumbling around them, but their love will endure even while the world burns down around them.”
I don’t know about you, but I love the Hunger Games. The series, not the actual practice of children fighting to the death of course. Working with a such great group of vendors to bring to life Effie and Haymitch’s Mockingjay inspired wedding was just amazing.
Everything for this wedding inspiration shoot came together so easily. For this shoot I was really inspired by the idea of love in the midst of chaos. I wanted to portray the decadence and glitz of the Panem Capitol against a rustic decaying backdrop. I already had the Old Chapmill Mill in Haymarket in mind for our location and it was the perfect backdrop. Then when I went to see the movie and they had the decaying mill in some of the scenes in District 13 it was too perfect.
When I told Amy of Bijou’s Sweet Treats my concept she came up with the idea of the gilded cake peeling away to reveal a naked cake underneath. The Lazaro dress from Jeanette’s Bride N’ Boutique was such a showstopper and was the perfect over the top Capitol gown. Alison Harper and Company went above and beyond with the bright orange hair extensions and neon make-up for our model.
When it came to the invitation suite I had no idea what we should do. I contacted Heather at Simply Designed and she came up with the idea for the gold glitter edged plexiglass invitations which were absolutely stunning.
Hartman Jewelers, Katie Rose LLC, and Shelley’s Floral all delivered results that were better than I could have hoped for and Stylish Patina completed the shoot with vintage rentals and accessories to put the perfect finishing touches on the shoot.
I know that Haymitch and Effie don’t get married in the books, but maybe in the movie they will take some creative liberties…May the odds be ever in your favor.
