A Gold and White Same-sex Rustic Barn Wedding in Virginia at Rock Hill Farm
I am so happy to finally be able to share this amazing rustic barn wedding in Virginia at Rock Hill Farm in Culpeper from earlier this year!
I worked with the team from Main Street Weddings and Events for this styled wedding shoot and I love how it turned out. Masculine rustic glam was the inspiration behind this shoot. We wanted to convey masculine, black tie, casual and farm-charm all in one. The subtle color palette of gold and white is perfect with the rustic interior of the barn.
Rock Hill Farm is located just outside Culpeper and is a picturesque farm complete with cows, goats and even a peacock! The owner of Rock Hill Farm is a huge supporter of the Culpeper community so we incorporated details from local merchants Harriet’s General (Brackish Bowties) and Yesterday Reclaimed (Chevrolet bench). The large interior space is panelled in a light wood with nuetral tan floors and high, open beam cielings. Several windows and rolling barn doors on either side of the barn let in plenty of light. The barn also has a built in wet-bar in the main event area. The barn has two guest rooms that can be used for both the bride and groom to get ready. Seperate entrances minimize the risk of the couple seeing each other unintentionally.
Fabienne Laveau of Wedding Muse provided the florals for the shoot. She combined delicate rose buds with feathers, herbs, and succulents to create a subtle but textural color palette. The plan was to keep it natural based on the rustic farm beauty of the property, but to swing it to contemporary with the containers. The vases, with their masses of a messy, just- picked flowers formed an unruly skyline, while the sparkle and shimmer of the votives gave it some city night lights.
Signature Sweets by Amanda designed the three layer naked cake (which was delicious)! I love the simplicity of the naked cake for a rustic wedding.
The menus and invitation suite were designed by Ragan Ketterer of Chikpea Graphics. She kept with the rifined color palette of black, white and gold and added a little modern flair with a graphic chevron pattern. The barn is surrounded by several other small outbuildings, large fields overlooking the Shenandoah mountains, and the Owner’s home nearby. The mountain range in the distance makes for beautiful sunset images. Rock Hill Farm’s nuetral color palette, open floor plan, and convenient location near Culpeper make it an excellent choice as a venue for a rustic barn wedding in Virginia. You can use almost any decor in this venue and it will look lovely in any season. The two grooms each sported a unique bow tie from Harriet’s General in downtown Culpeper. Desmond wore a peacock bow tie while Stacey had a varigated brown tie. These bow ties were so cool and come in lovely wooden boxes with etched lids Main Street Hair Studio groomed Desmond’s hair and ensured both of the grooms looked their best for the shoot. Rock Hill Farm was selected as it is an All-American wedding venue as a nod to the recent marriage equality development in this country. Stacey and Desmond were married in a courthouse ceremony in DC five years ago this fall and were greatly involved in planning the shoot as we wanted to best portray their style and love. Giving the shoot an urban twist for this hipster couple in neutrals completed the idea of complementing rather than competing for design attention.
