A Modern Day John and Abigail Adams

This styled shoot was based on a real couple, Hilary and Paul, who wanted to bring to life their version of the famous founding couple, John and Abigail Adams.

If you are not familiar with a styled shoot it is when a group of {super talented} wedding vendors get together to plan and photograph a mini wedding, usually around a theme.  It is so much fun getting to meet and work with other wedding professionals outside the confines of a wedding day!

This shoot has gotten such an amazing response and I am so grateful to everyone who worked hard to make it happen.  It is set to be featured on all of the following blogs:

About the shoot, in Hilary’s own words…

“My husband and I have always loved history and it has shown itself in my different areas of our relationship. We especially love colonial history and the founding fathers. We were engaged in Old Town Alexandria (early home of George Washington), spent our 1st year dating anniversary in Colonial Williamsburg, and our 1 year wedding anniversary in Charlottesville (so we could see Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello).

What’s with Mr. and Mrs. Adams?

When it came time to pick out a name for our blog (that we used to document our wedding), I decided to go with Mr. & Ms. Adams, as an ode to our favorite founding couple John and Abigail Adams. Well, we are obsessed with history, especially colonial history (that might be the understatement of the year).  One of our favorite founding couples is the Adams.  Their relationship is an inspiration and John Adams’ core values and morals were way beyond his time.  We admire their relationship so much we used one of their love letters as a reading in our wedding ceremony.

We are total opposites but great balances for one another.  He’s a gregarious, social butterfly, who could talk an Eskimo into buying ice, while I’m a quiet, introverted, nerd, who enjoys writing, reading and observing.  We love living life to the fullest and enjoy spending all our time together.  We commute to work together, work a floor apart from one another, workout together, come home together, you get the picture.  We are completely inseparable and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It was well known that Mr. and Mrs. Adams were avid letter writers (one article said that Abigail wrote John 12,000 letters) so we decided to incorporate the theme of love letters into the session.  Our calligrapher, also a bit of a history buff it would seem, went online and found us Abigail Adams stamps for the invitation suite and even researched the address at which Abigail had been living before her marriage to use on the RSVP cards.  While John was in office many people called the couple “Mr. President” and Mrs. President” so we made some mugs with those titles on the side.  Hilary, our model, made the paper flowers that were incorporated into the florals from copies of love letters that John and Abigail wrote one another (the couple has a book of their letters”.
